Alexandra Apartments Bundaberg

Overview:

Alexandra Apartments are near a major road providing easy access to get to where you want to go.

We arrived late afternoon so the office was closed when we arrived, however check in was easy with a lockbox near the front door.

The main reasons we booked these apartments was so that our toddler had somewhere to run around with an enclosed courtyard and good-sized living area, and it has a garage attached to the apartment to park the car in. The reviews were pretty good as well. While the apartment was a great size for the nightly rate, we were left disappointed.

The pictures look to be from when the apartments were built and while not inaccurate, they aren’t really a true reflection of what the apartments now, at least the one we stayed in anyway. Starting with the courtyard, it wasn’t over grown, but it was in need of a tidied up, although our son was kept entertained picking all the weeds out from between the pavers, so I guess that was a plus. There was also a bush bee colony living in the metre box in the courtyard, and the bees started to swarm while we were outside playing, so I reported it straight away to the office. I was a little disappointed to hear they already knew about the hive and didn’t mention it knowing we had a toddler and a baby with us. I was also told that they don’t sting, which I already knew, but others may not, my may main concern was that they were swarming, which I hadn’t seen bush bees do before. They did get the beekeeper out to remove them the next day, and it was an interesting experience to see the hive removed and we got to taste the honey.

Inside was a great size and downstairs was pretty clean, just starting to get on the rundown side of things, with broken/missing blinds. Upstairs was very dusty, to the point we all had trouble sleeping, and suffered from allergy flare ups during in our stay. There was thick dust on the walls and blinds in the bedrooms and the air-conditioner looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in years. The bathroom, especially the shower is in desperate need of an upgrade, with lots of holes and cracks in the tiles filled with silicone, among other things.

There was also the issue with the type of blinds, which sat out from the window and left a big gap, that every time are car drove down the nearby main road the headlights would shine through the window, reflecting the mirrored cupboard doors and light up the room. The beds were also very uncomfortable.

The garage was too small to be able to get in and out of the car, we had to park in the driveway to unpack and pack the car, and every time we needed to get the kids in and out of the car. The staff would also fly down the driveway in their cars, even when it was obvious that children were around.

On our first day, since we only had one key, we left the key in the lockbox just for ease of having the key near the door in case one of us was dropped back at the house so bub could have a nap, but when we got back the lockbox was unlocked with the key in it and the front door to the apartment also open. I assume the cleaners accessed the apartment for some reason, other than to clean. Nothing was missing, however nothing valuable had been left in the apartment either. The second day I locked the lockbox, but didn’t leave the key in there and it was open when we got back, so not sure what was going on there.

Pros:

  • Easy access to main road to get around

  • Big – very good size

Cons:

  • Dirty

  • Need an update

  • Very small garage

Over all the apartments had potential, we personally just wouldn’t stay there again unless they give them a deep clean and freshen up. We definitely wouldn’t recommend to family with younger children, especially with the stairs not able to be blocked off at all.

Unfortunately I didn’t take any photos of the apartment, so all of the photos I’ve included are from booking.com, however the ones I've picked look to be of the apartment that we stayed in when it was newer.
