Overview:

The Skytower was a bit of an icon when it was first build being the tallest building in Brisbane and sixth tallest building in Australia. It’s a 90-storey mixed hotel and residential tower.

It’s located in a quieter part of the Brisbane CBD, only a block from the City Botanic Gardens, making it easy access to the playgroup within the gardens, and river walk.

There is a carpark next door which you can purchasing a parking pass for during check-in, you cannot book this in advance. There are carparks allocated to CLLIX, but they are not allocated to each car or person, so you may need to drive around a little while before you find a park. Like all city carparks it’s a little poky, with a very odd layout.

There are a handful of restaurants and cafes within the same block as Skytower. It’s also an easy walk to Central Station and Queen Street mall for more dining options, a supermarket and shopping. The new cross river rail will also have a station just around the corner once the project is complete. If you don’t mind walking you can also cut through the City Botanic Gardens and QUT to Goodwill Bridge which will take you across to South Bank. The new Neville Bonner Bridge, which has opened since our last stay is only a short walk away as well. There is also a Ferry terminal at QUT and bus stops all throughout the city.

The apartments are clean, and the two room types we have stayed in have been very spacious with plenty of room for the kids to be kids. The apartments have minimal furniture, the Skyhigh apartment we stayed in the first time only had a 2.5 seater lounge, when the apartment sleeps 4, so this is something to be mindful of if you plan to spent a bit of time relaxing in the apartment. The kitchen had all the basic essentials for cooking, and the laundry had a tub, washer and dryer.

In the Skyhigh apartment we had access to two swimming pools, however we found the one up higher was colder. The layout of both pools is exactly the same with a gym overlooking the pool, a BBQ area and a seating area. Not all apartments have balconies, however the one apartment we had that did have a balcony was very secure, which added a little more peace of mind with having kids in the apartment.

The pillows are very fluffy, which is a change from the usually flat pillows you get in hotels, however we found them a little too high, especially for kids. The beds were typical hotel beds.

If you stay 7 nights or more you will get a room service during your stay, this may not be in the middle of you stay, for us it was the day before checkout.

The kids loved watching the cranes, lights and general city activity going on below from the windows and balcony.

Pros:

  • Good location

  • Friendly staff

  • Very clean

  • Quiet

  • Good views

  • If you are part of Booking.com’s Genius loyalty program you get Genius discounts on Skytower bookings

Cons:

  • Not all rooms in all apartments have windows so the door is a frosted glass instead, which we found to be a nuisance when our son went to bed as the living area light shone through and the sun shone through in the morning waking him up earlier than usual.

  • On our second stay we paid for late checkout at 12pm, however we still had the cleaners knocking on the door at 11am asking us when we were leaving. The front desk also called to ask if when had left yet, probably because the cleaners called them. The key also stopped working in the door around this time, so my husband couldn’t get back in after taking the rubbish out to the chute.

Overall, we have enjoyed both our stays at Brisbane Skytower by CLLIX and recommend it all types of travellers.

Unfortunately at the time we stayed, I didn't think I was starting this blog so I didn't take any photos of the apartments, so I've included some of the view from our apartment and some from booking.com

These four photos are from booking.com's listing of Brisbane Skytower by CLLIX
